There better be more than blood...
That new vamp series "True Blood" -- (from Alan Ball, who did “Six Feet Under”) -- might have slick looking Ads flying around...'creating buzz.POST A COMMENT
One outdoor ad placed in gay neighborhoods here in New York asks -- "Where were you when vampires came out?" -- which is a play on the show's allegory -- 'harmless vamps living among prejudiced humans...
Yeah, real cute.
Another ad-gimmick -- (pictured here) -- pushes a drink called Tru Blood -- (and it actually had people looking to buy the product...)
But, for all those Fancy Shamcy ads "True Blood" has the-bite-marks of being another dead-on arrival...same ol, same ol.
'I happened to have read one of the latest Charlaine Harris southern-vampire-books, that the show is based on...'and was only mildly-amused. The backdrop does have a rich set-up to play around with, but Alan Ball really needs to amp up the sex to cover up some of the stink.
HBO viewers might remember that head-scratching-clunker -- "John From Cincinnati," -- it also had a way-too-hip-for the room 'ubber slick-ad-campaign...so, forgive me for being leery from the get-go.
The way they're playing it -- you'd think they just put the wonder in sliced bread...Six Feet Under was an okay show, but a bit on the sappy-side for my taste.
Let's face it, “Sex and the City” and “The Sopranos” both earned that "It's not TV" ad-slogan...'we viewers have something called a remote control, and our own fancy slogan at-the-ready: "It's Not HBO. It's Showtime"
My suggestion to the head honchos at HBO is to ease up on the hype-machine; there's a handful of folks that still feels owed for the past few years of mediocre shows.
Save the slick ad campaign for when --or should I say "if" -- the show is a hit...'spend your money-time-and-effort on creating another Bloody-good show that's might actually be water-cooler worthy.Labels: Alan Ball, HBO, Six Feet Under, True Blood
