Sure everyone's looking for ways to recession-proof their life right now -- if you're in business however, you shouldn't just be looking to survive the shaky economy -- easy just to say "let's cut back on everything..."
You need to be looking for ways to bring in new business --
This Ad Age story called Six Ways Ad Agencies Are Reeling in New Business -- does describes ways to get new customers (as an ad agency) -- but, regardless of what you're pushing...
I'm thinking these work for anybody trying to bring new heads to the table...here's their list:
Network Innovatively
Show your social media savvy
Adopt a recognizable platform
Be willing to contort
Write a book
Offer a direct line to the CEO
The basic gist seems to be go find ways to Communicate with potential customers...I'm gonna provide my own thoughts here on number five, the "Write a Book" -- wish list...
This one sounds more far fetched because...well Geez...if anyone could just write a book -- well we'd have a whole lotta books out there, no?
Beyond the ambitiousness of it...I'm thinking this might read better if they suggested start a company blog or Write one those really teenie-tiny E-Books -- that might easier to wrap my head around and simple enough to do -- and mostly free to publish...I'll move on and focus of the good points here:
I do agree here the work involved is worth the effort, because even if nobody reads your book you can learn some valuable lessons about your ideas and how they really look once they are structured in a publishable format.
Plus, if nothing else, It might be a neat calling card...at least two steps above handing out a business card...
There's a saying if you build it, they will come...springs to mind here. If you write it, you put a place mark down that this is what's on your mind.
Whether that translate into new customers...well, that's another story all together...but, it does begin with getting a place at the table...'leave me your own thoughts (by adding a comment and I'll write a follow up).
