Skin Tips: Saving Face!

This will be that day, that's how it started for me. I easily coulda been the before picture that hung in the dermatologist office. Yep, my skin was that bad.

Allow me take you by the hand here. Baby steps, to baby skin,

or

a few easy tips towards a clearer face. Everything starts within, like an inside out approach -- 'not going to repeat all the dieting tips I wrote about previously but they are worth checking out.

Right now I'm sitting here sipping on a warm glass of green tea with some fresh lemon juice. I do want to stress that's more a lifestyle choice.

But, it can be counted as one quick inside-out-tip. Tea has plenty of anti-oxidants, and fresh lemons help to detoxify the body and ultimately the skin.

It starts by taking stock of what you put in your body. The first day I went to the dermatologist he asked me 'what's your diet like?'

'Making a few daily changes in your diet over time does show on your face. Let's start with these 3 quickies:

  1. VEG OUT. I get a shot of wheatgrass almost daily at the health food store (but that's extreme). It is all about getting the chlorophyll in greens in you -- they purify, cleanse, detoxify and heal the skin. Prevention magazine suggests eating a cup of raw veggies a day for that very reason.
  2. GO NUTTY. A handful of Walnuts or other nuts are not only anti-aging they are rich in heart-healthy fats and Omega-3s which help the skin.
  3. GOT MILK. Something so simple, but milk not only relaxes the skin it provides a share of needed vitamins, proteins and amino acids.

'Gonna skip right to my nightly routine because that's where you'll see the most bang for your efforts. I want to push as much as possible new collagen growth -- and most of that old-to-new-skin-change-up happens while you're sleeping.

I start by scrubbing down the face with a good soap -- I use Neutrogena's Deep Clean facial cleanser, but a Ivory soap works too. It's about clearing away the dead skin and scrubbing forces the collagen growth -- and lays the ground work for new skin.

After I add a thin layer of vitamin rich moisturizer to calm and feed the skin into growing while I sleep. If you do only one thing every day, that should be it.
