Permission Marketing

Grand-Papa's Got a Brand New Bag?

old_consumers_trends.jpg

James Brown sang the praises of an old man brave enough to get out on the dance floor in that song "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" -- maybe he was ahead of his time in more ways than one (sure that riff marked the beginning of funk)...but, how about the age of marketing more and more to those old-timers... yeah

'sounds about right here -- (cue that horn-riff for me) -- I'm reading that Older Audiences are

Looking Better Than Ever in these hard times --

one survey of new buyers -- suggests "up to 40 percent were actually older, mainly grandparents," (NY Times)

'this paints a growing trend: "an increasing interest in marketing goods and services to consumers age 50 and older."

Sexuality Studies: more it changes...

whatwomenwant.jpg

'Thinking that NY Times article that asked "What Do Women Want?" -- suggests inside that we're all made of the same stuff...allow me to explain.

When I do my own in house comparisons of the group versus the individual -- I sometimes think about that Star Trek movie that has Mr. Spock saying -- "logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh...the needs of the few." -- yeah, maybe...then why did Captain Kirk spend the whole next movie going against that?

Okay, maybe Star Trek and Female Sexuality don't jive...and maybe I've just outed myself as the worlds biggest geek...

Question: are all women only aroused by watching men on men sex??

Fashion Dies a slow-miserable-death!

FashionDeath2009.jpg

*** (that slow-death headline might just be wishful thinking on my part) -- I've grown to hate that word fashion -- good, 'got that out the way.

Okay, hate is a strong word for how I feel about it. Let's just say it's invaded my house at night -- ('nuff said) -- and that makes me happy to watch other people take-a-piss-all-over fashion --(and maybe It'll put a few bitches in the poor house that need it).

In my perfect world I would hope for an new era in Fashion -- where function and sensibility beats over style and drama -- maybe that would give us some common ground when it comes to style -- yeah, call me a bit of dreamer.

But, in the meanwhile I'll sit here and enjoy watching Paris Burn -- (my guilty pleasure). Read on --

“We’re at the point where we’re dipping into our savings to stay alive,” says a group of retailers with hopes of luring shoppers back into stores (NY Times).

Really dipping into savings...?

The gift of Love?

14opedlarge.jpg

Not the biggest fan of Valentines Day -- my gift this year to my own special someone is the cutest set of handheld Dumbells -- go-on whisper a chorus of "Bah! Humbug!" if I sound over-it-all. I'm not, really. Just over this idea that love could be bought one-day-a-year during the month of February.

Gifts are not given or owned, but rather shared said that German philosopher Heidegger -- I'm right there with ya Heidegger.

Isn't love more about -- "time shared" then the amount of money spent on a gift on February 14th?

Sundance Fest: Calling Doctor-feel-good?

sundance_film_festival.jpg

Looking at distribution deals (from this past Sundance Film Festival) -- *tisk *tisk go on and insert your best slow-head-nod...

Sounds like the message to Art-house movies could be best expressed by that Billy Joel song -- Say goodbye to Hollywood!

"Given how the market is, we are just being really careful and cautious and making sure we know what our distribution plans are," says one exec to the LA Times on that wrap-up story of movie deals.
