Art-house Flicks find a new home?
POST A COMMENT
'Was chatting with my partner on that unstoppable drum-beat of the blurring of media online...sounded something like this:
Me: "You can watch all your fav TV shows online."
Partner: "More and more shows..even cable."
Me: "Add to that the equalizing factor of the web, and you'll get your next new shows starting right here..."
So, why-not throw the "art-house" into this mix of colliding trends...look-y-here:
Announced today: Tribeca Film Institute partnered with Amazon to launch on web: Reframe, a site for INDIE films -- and owners of content that would otherwise be unseen to convert digitally and sell their films. With this service, called Reframe - (reframecollection.org)--
-- "copyright holders will split the profit on digital download rentals and purchases (distributed in Windows Media Player format) evenly. DVD sales will operate under a tiered system, with 40% of $50 and under titles, 85% of $51-$200 titles and 90% of more than $200 titles going to rights holders."
I'm one all for the old-school experience of that dark-shared-experience in room with buttery popcorn to watch my movies...but, this at least gives hope to those niche films that might otherwise never see the light of day.

How to direct a blockbuster...
POST A COMMENT
Another Day, another Iron Man clip to build up the hype-machine. This new one's called "Flight Stabilizer" - which can also be seen with interesting commentary from the films director Jon Favreau, (who has been keeping fans very informed).
As Favreau explains (over on Yahoo with his directors commentary on this same clip) -- "This is part of additional footage..." - shot later, after they wrapped.
Which, from my own experiences directing, offers the best building blocks to great filmmaking.
I believe the key to good directing is a constant checks and balance approach: whereby incorporating "on-set improv," - and "adding layers on set" to scripted ideas (and then again taking a fresh look in post)...and then going back out, after watching the footage, to shoot new stuff; For a multi-layered effect.

Spurlock strikes Gold!
POST A COMMENT
It's one of those ideas that you wished you came up with...'That super-sized docu-guy "Spurlock" is back with a movie that looks kinda cool; I really enjoyed his Mac-Daddy take on eating McDonald's for a month...and he's really funny (along the line of a Michael Moore funny -- without the politics)...oh, wait, scratch that...a movie about Finding Osama...might somehow be political (I mean, look where we ended up looking for him, in Iraq...) Here's a clip:
** somebody give him a TV show already!Labels: documentary, movies
